When scheduling an appointment, please inform the receptionist of the nature of your problem so we can set aside the proper amount of time for your visit. We understand that your time is valuable and make every effort to maintain our schedule. Sometimes, however, emergencies may cause unforeseen delays. If necessary, our staff will contact you to reschedule your appointment promptly.
If you must cancel an appointment, we ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance. This allows our physician to offer appointments to other patients in need of care.
If you miss your appointment without giving adequate notice, you will be charged the regular office visit fee for that appointment. If you fail to keep three appointments without notifying us, you will be asked to seek your medical care at another facility.
Hospital Newborn CareThe doctors at Heritage Pediatrics see our newborn patients at both Harrisburg Hospital and Holy Spirit Hospital. Please inform your obstetrician that you would like us to care for your new baby so that the newborn nursery staff can contact Heritage Pediatrics after your delivery. At the time of discharge from the hospital, care will be transferred to our office.
Acute Hospital CareWe have refined our skills in the area of outpatient medical care and use our internal medicine and pediatric specialist colleagues to manage our adult and pediatric patients who require acute hospital care. If the time comes when you or your child needs to be hospitalized for an acute medical problem, we will arrange a referral and care with one of the specialists from the Heritage Medical Group, or another group of your choice. During your time at the hospital we will be in contact with these selected physicians in order to remain current on your care. Once you are ready to be discharged from the hospital these physicians will turn your care back over to us. These physicians admit to both the PinnacleHealth System and Holy Spirit Hospital so you usually will have an option of the hospital facility of your choice.
Bowmansdale Family Practice is temporarily closed to new patients. We anticipate reopening in September. Please contact us after Labor Day weekend for an update.Bowmansdale Family Practice currently participates in many insurance plans and managed care plans (see list below). Please inquire regarding your specific carrier at the time you make your appointment.
It is important that you understand your particular medical coverage and that you keep us informed of any changes in your insurance coverage including secondary insurance. We need this information to ensure accurate billing. Our Billing Office as available to discuss any questions you have regarding your claim or coverage.
Many managed care plans require referral authorization for services outside this office. Please allow three business days for us to process your request for a referral. Same day completion of requests for pre-scheduled specialist referrals cannot be accommodated.
Many insurance carriers have a “deductible” which must be met before they pay any part of a claim. Should your insurance carrier notify us that you have not met your deductible for a particular year, we will bill you directly for this amount.

We will be happy to answer any questions concerning prescriptions during regular office hours. We have a phone/voicemail line to take requests for prescription refills, although it is generally best to call your pharmacy when you need prescription refills. The pharmacy will fax us a refill request and you can expect the prescription to be available for pickup at the pharmacy within 24 hours.If you call us to request prescription refills, these can be processed most quickly if you have some basic information on hand when you call. Please try to anticipate your need for prescription refills, as we are reluctant to authorize refills or changes after our usual office hours when your medical record is not readily available. We request a 24 hour notice to refill your prescription. Please do not call for refills on controlled substances (narcotics) prescriptions after hours.
In order to process each managed care referral, we must have at least three working days notice. This will ensure there is adequate time for your physician/PA to review your chart to obtain the necessary insurance company authorization. It is the policy of many insurance companies that paper referrals be hand carried to the specialist. Advance notification and timely pick-up of your referral form will maximize the efficiency of the referral process.
Please remember that most insurance companies require us to authorize all CT and MRI studies. Please ensure these authorizations have been obtained by the office who ordered your diagnostic study.
The referral desk is available to assist you with managed care authorizations, schedule visits with specialists, or answer other referral questions between the hours of 9:00am and 4:30pm daily.
Due to the expenses of monthly billing, we request that payment be made at the time of your office visit. For your added convenience, we now accept VISA/Mastercard/MAC.
Our Business Office Staff is available to discuss charges with you, and upon request, we will provide an estimate of charges for proposed procedures.
If your personal circumstances make payment of medical expenses difficult, we can discuss payment contract with you.
If your account has a balance due for more than 90 days, it will be subject to collections through a collection agency unless you have worked out a payment contract with our billing staff.
Please retain your receipts which are provided at the time of payment. Year-end itemized statements, subject to a service fee, will be provided at your request.
